Hardware Requirements

"Full workstation" example configuration for using any exocad product

  • CPU: Intel Core-i9 11900k / AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4 non ECC
  • Graphics: Nvidia RTX 2060 (6GB GDDR6) or RTX 3070 / AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT or 6700XT (6 GB GDDR6)
  • Screen resolution: WQHD (2560x1440), recommended: UHD (3840x2160)
  • Power: 750+ Watt

Minimum hardware configuration to run exocad DentalCAD

  • CPU: Quad-Core and 2.8 Ghz
    Note: AMD Ryzen ZEN2 CPUs e.g. AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or 3900X are supported starting with 2.3 Matera version (EngineBuild 7174 or newer), released by exocad in August/September 2019.
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Graphics: Nvidia GTX or AMD Radeon series dedicated GPU with at least 1 GB graphics memory, OpenGL 4, DirectX 11.1, Shader Model 5 and a graphics driver dated August 2017 or newer.
  • Minimum screen resolution: 1080p (1920x1080), if a DPI setting of 100% is used. If you use a higher DPI setting, a higher resolution is required!
  • Power: 450 Watt

Minimum hardware configuration to run exoplan

  • CPU: Quad-Core and 2.8 Ghz
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Graphics: Nvidia or AMD Radeon dedicated GPU with at least 2 GB video RAM or better, OpenGL 4, DirectX 11.1, Shader Model 5 and a graphics driver dated August 2017 or newer
  • Screen resolution: 1080p (1920x1080), if a DPI setting of 100% is used. If you use a higher DPI setting, a higher resolution is required.
  • Power: 450 Watt

Special graphics card requirements for PartialCAD

  • The software will work with Nvidia and AMD series graphics cards only.
  • A minimum of 4GB graphics memory is required. A minimum CUDA level of 3.0 or OpenCL 1.2 is also required. (see list of CUDA levels of different graphics cards).
  • Older or entry-level Nvidia and AMD chips might not work well, or will result in poor performance.
  • Intel integrated graphics chips are not supported for PartialCAD.

Special graphics card requirements for DICOM Viewer

  • Nvidia GTX or AMD Radeon series graphics card with 1,5GB video RAM or better

Special graphics card requirements for ChairsideCAD

  • Additionally supported is hardware with an Intel GPU (HD 4600 or better) with at least 1 GB graphics memory, OpenGL 4, DirectX 11.1, Shader Model 5 and a graphics driver dated August 2017 or newer.


Software Requirements

Operating system requirements for any exocad product in the current version since 2016:

  • Microsoft Windows 10 Pro (versions 1809, 1909, 20H2, 21H1, 21H2) 64 bit version


Operating system requirements for DentalCAD 3.0 Galway Service Release 1 and ChairsideCAD 3.0 Galway (both since 2021):

  • Microsoft Windows 10 Pro (versions 1809, 1909, 20H2, 21H1, 21H2) 64 bit version
  • Microsoft Windows 11 version 21H2


Operating system requirements for DentalCAD 3.2 Elefsina:

  • Windows 10 (21H2 - 22H2)
  • Windows 11 (21H2)


Operating system requirements for DentalCAD 3.2 Elefsina Service Release 1:

  • Win 23 H1 and Win23 H2

.Net requirements

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and later
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2 or 4.8


.Net requirement for DentalCAD 3.2 Elefsina:

  • Microsoft .NET 6


.Net requirement for DentalCAD 3.2 Elefsina Service Release 1::

  • Microsoft .NET 8



Be advised that in Windows 8 and 10, the installation of the .Net 3.5 SP1 framework cannot be done via Installer .NET 3.5 SP1 due to Microsoft restrictions. To perform the installation properly, please check the Framework checkboxes in the Features menu of your operating system. PDF reader

Peripherals/Human Interface devices (HID)

  • Standard computer keyboard required
  • Standard computer mouse required
  • Multitouch screen optional/supported (not for exoplan)
  • 3D mouse (3D connexion) optional/supported. Please see here for supported 3D mice: https://3dconnexion.com/spacemouse/. Please be advised that any special LED/display-powered 3D mouse macros/buttons are not supported.
  • 3D mouse (SpaceController) optional/supported. Please see here for supported 3D mice: http://www.spacecontrol.de. Please be advised that any special LED/display-powered 3D mouse macros/buttons are not supported. Requires exocad DentalCAD 2.2 Valletta.
  • A free USB slot is required to connect the USB license copy protection dongle (HID device).
  • Internet connection is generally recommended. For subscription-based licences, a permanent internet connection is required.

exocad and Mac

The exocad software is developed only for Windows-based systems, all virtual machine environments including Parallels are not supported. If you want to use a Mac, you must install Windows via Bootcamp, which requires an Intel Mac. If so, you must take care of this yourself and our support does not cover it.
Note: Apple Silicon (M.x chip) Macs don't support Windows via Bootcamp.
Please make sure that you have the minimum hardware configuration requirements to run the software according to the information available on this page. Further support for updates of Mac etc. we can not support it either.
